“Have to believe we are magic… now we are here in Xanadu!”
SUMMER 2014 and Adelaide Fringe, so it’s the perfect time to slide back on your leg warmers, dust off those roller skates and wear the shortest of shorts; because Davine Interventions by arrangement with Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd. Exclusive agent for Music Theatre International (NY) is proud to present the Adelaide Premiere Production of the Broadway hit Stage Musical Comedy ’XANADU’ as part of Fringe 2014.
With it’s book by acclaimed writer Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra) and John Farrar, the musical is based on the 1980 cult classic film of the same name which starred Olivia Newton John & Gene Kelly.
Xanadu the Musical was winner of 2008 Outer Critics’ Circle Award for Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical as well as being nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical. The show, much like the movie, follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980. It is her quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO, hey it’s 1980, and to achieve ‘Xanadu’… a gift so wondrous no-one really knows what it is!
But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.
This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score including, “Magic”, “All Over The World”, “Suddenly”, “I’m Alive”, “Evil Woman”, “Have You Never Been Mellow” and “Xanadu”, to name a few.
Brought to you by the same Adelaide team who created the critically acclaimed ‘Altar Boyz’ in Fringe 2013, it’s hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired. You’ll want to keep the music in your head, and XANADU in your heart, forever.
